Kisumu Care

This is Maurice. When he was born, he lost his mother during birth.

12 years later, he also lost his father, this time to HIV/AIDS.

He had to learn to take care of himself. He had to quit school.

When he got sick, he had to hope his body would heal itself.

Hospital was not an option. He was often hungry, and some days,

all he ate was a portion of porridge.

Though, Maurice was lucky, he made it.

Today he is a pastor, married and has two beautiful children, and he has a dream!

His dream is to take care of the orphan children in his city, Kisumu. He wants to be a home for the homeless. A voice to the voiceless. There are 260 000 orphan children in Kenya (Unicef statistics 2012). 100 000 of these, has lost their parents due to AIDS. With no parents to care for them, they have to learn how to take care of themselves, and possible siblings. They have no possibility to receive healthcare or education. Food soon becomes hard to get hold of, and malnutrition arises.

“Many children sleep at dumpsites”, Maurice tells me. “The worst is when it start to rain. Many have no one to love them, no one to take care of them. I want to give them love and a home”.

Today, Maurice gives the small amount of money he has extra to the street-children and other orphans. He invites them in for dinner when he can afford it. He buys some school uniforms, so they can go to school. But his money is limited, because he already has a family of four.

However, we can make his dream come true! By building a Children`s Development Center for orphan children. We want to create a safe environment, where the children at greatest risk will receive help in their days with endless challenges. The children will receive 1-2 meals per day. We want to increase their quality of life through contact with adults that have plenty of love to give, social community with other children, and make sure they receive nutritious food.

There will also be facilitated time for different activities such as singing, sports and teaching them to become independent through education. The children will be taught about nutrition, hygiene, agriculture and respect for each other. Because we believe that education is the key to fighting poverty, there will also be put aside time where the children will work with homework in groups.

We want to start sustainable projects. We want to invest in agriculture, projects and education, we believe that these centers can become self-sufficient.

To be able to do all of this, we need your help!
